Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in an Isolated Cilioretinal Artery Occlusion: A Case Report

چکیده
The arterial blood supply to the eye is provided by the ophthalmic artery, one of the branches of the internal carotid artery. The branches of the ophthalmic artery which meet the metabolic needs of the globe are central retinal artery, short and long posterior ciliaries, anterior ciliaries. The central retinal artery enters the globe through the optic nerve and supplies blood to the inner layers of the retina. The long posterior ciliary arteries supply blood to the cilioretinal artery, choroid and the outer layers of the retina. The anterior ciliary arteries and posterior ciliary arteries anastamose to form the major arterial circle of the iris [1]. The human retina has two separate circulations; the retinal circulation supplies the inner layers of the retina and the choroidal circulation supplies the outer layers [2]. The retinal artery occlusions mostly affect inner retinal layers because choroidal circulation supplies the majority of the oxygen to the outer layers of the retina, and only the inner layers of the retina are nourished by the retinal circulation.

Idiopathic Isolated Cilioretinal Artery Occlusion Treated with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Cilioretinal artery occlusion (CLRAO) is a rare event which has been reported in association with various systemic diseases. We report a case of idiopathic isolated CLRAO treated successfully with hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy. A 26-year-old man presented with sudden, painless vision loss and an inferior hemivisual field defect in the left eye. Fundus fluorescein angiography revealed an occlu...

Five patients with a one- to 12-day history of symptoms secondary to retinal artery occlusion (RAO) were treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO2) for one hour at 1.5 ATA. Four patients had been diagnosed with branch retinal artery occlusion (BRAO) and one patient with a cilioretinal artery occlusion. The three patients with macular sparing occlusions had experienced a loss of visual field,...

INTRODUCTION We describe hyperbaric oxygen therapy for the treatment of central retinal artery occlusion in a young adult with sickle cell disease. CASE PRESENTATION A 25-year-old Turkish man with a history of sickle cell disease developed sudden painless loss of vision in the left eye and was hospitalized for diagnosis and treatment. Central retinal artery occlusion was diagnosed with retina...

Purpose. To report the efficacy of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy in a case of branch retinal artery occlusion (BRAO) in a 15-year-old boy. Methods. We report a 15-year-old boy with sudden loss of vision due to BRAO. Examination included laboratory evaluation for systemic risk factors. Follow-up exams included visual acuity, fundus examination, fundus fluorescein angiography, and visual field ...

A 60-year-old woman had central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) presented to the ophthalmology department with a sudden, painless loss of vision. Her initial visual acuity was light perception and she treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) 4 hours after the development of visual symptoms. Systemic risk factors were not found so she was diagnosed as having idiopathic CRAO. Her vision impr...
